Fears that Ofsted’s proposed grading scale is ‘rehash of dangerous system’

A 12-week consultation on inspection reforms is being launched on Monday.

The main conceptual idea of the text is that Ofsted's proposed new grading system for schools, while attempting to address concerns raised by the death of headteacher Ruth Perry, is seen by many as a "rehash" of the flawed system it's meant to replace. Critics, including Perry's sister and the head of the Association of School and College Leaders, argue that the new system, with its color-coded ratings across various areas, still has dangerous features and risks the wellbeing of teachers and headteachers. They believe the new proposals prioritize superficial judging over a holistic understanding of school effectiveness and could lead to increased pressure and stress on educators.
